Is Twitter Under Attack from Russia?
Twitter is being attacked by people from Russia. Actually, not people, but tweeple.
Russian twitter users want to display the word “Russia” as one of the Top-10 Worldwide Trending Topics. This is a first-rate flash mob, the biggest that has ever been in the Russian part of the Internet. If it succeeds, millions of tweeple around the world will see “Russia” on their screens. It might be twitter users like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Barack Obama, Steve Jobs or Bill Gates.
Why do Russians need this?. Commented Konstantin Rykov, State Duma deputy and the author of this idea:
“Everywhere in Russia everyone is speaking about moving forward. Theoretically, nobody is arguing with that, but in practice we are doing a poor job. ‘Trending: Worldwide’ reflects what is occupying the most people’s attention on Twitter at any one time. So our country will be able to be a trend if every Russian twitter user begins to discuss Russia and places hashtag #Russia in their tweets.
In my opinion, we really need to regularly declare that Russia is an advanced and consolidated country. And this action will help us to move in this direction. This flash mob is the largest action in Russian-speaking microblogging that has ever taken place. We are supported by the unofficial blogs of Russian politicians – Dmitry Medvedev, Dmitry Rogozin and Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
To get involved all you need to do is put hashtag #Russia in your Twitter. Everything is in our hands.”
